1. Sam's two favourite desserts are cheesecake and tiramisu.
But the cheesecake has to be all deliciously rich and the tiramisu, a perfect blend of coffee, Mascarpone cheese and liquor.
2. Sam wants to ride a Vespa in Italy and go cliff diving in the caribbeans
3. As a kid, she wanted to spend the rest of her life writing beautiful stories about magic trees and fourth dimensions. until she decided that getting a boring proper grown-up job (i.e. lawyer/banker) would pay more and that she doesnt have enough talent to live on imagination.
4. she also has weird complusions. like how at the end of a meal, her utensils MUST be arranged parallel to each other, facing the same direction and with no more than 1 cm between them.
5. Sam's favourite Shakespearean play is A Midsummer night's Dream, and her favourite personality in it is Puck, just cos he's such a free spirit and all mischief.
oh and because i take every chance i can get to say this, here's one more:
Sam believes that God's too big to fit into one religion, and that people should stop using that as an excuse to bomb others into smittereens. JUST STOP.

too young to understand/too old to live
things on their own have no meaning. we -our emotions, experiences and perspective - attach meaning to these things. we come to name the material objects in our language, based on our understanding of the world.
when i say chair, i mean a high backed four legged object to sit on. when you say chair, you could mean soft cushion, spindly legs and armrests. likewise, when i say love, i could mean hugs, understanding, pressence. and when you say love, you mean gifts, appreciation and tenderness. words are classifications and categories we use to make our understanding of the world more managable.
and everyday, we maneouvre this maze of names and meanings to project ourslves upon the world. we stumble on nouns, pronouns and verbs, trip ourselves up on adjections, conjunctions and superlatives. when we say something, are we heard the way we're meant to? when we listen, do we hear all that is not being said?
Hmmm, random musings on a slow Saturday afternoon.
but there arent enough words in this world to describe every nuance of feeling, every degree of magnitude. and therein lies the great irony of art. it names nothing for you. it defines nothing recognisable but reaches beyond all these categories and classifications to something more organic to something that doesnt need to be named. something intrinsic. this gives it the freedom and power unique to art alone. it is not bound by the limitations of language.
at the same time, that's what good writing is. it's the transferance of emotions and meanings from one person to another, in a way that transcends the mere definitions of the words as we've come to know them.

I'm scared.
i feel it,
the certain drift, the shrinking, the emptiness.
It's something i think we both feel, but
dont dare say aloud. for naming things as they are, gives them power,
a certain recognition that neither of us are willing to face.
all i can do is tell you how much i miss you,
as i feel you slipping away.
the certain drift, the shrinking, the emptiness.
It's something i think we both feel, but
dont dare say aloud. for naming things as they are, gives them power,
a certain recognition that neither of us are willing to face.

hello stranger.
It's a sunny sunday afternoon, and i'm listening to Joshua Radin on repeat. Sunflowers smile at me from my table, reminding me that someone out there loves me enough to search through the infinite number of flowers on the web, choose one with care, and pay massively for sth that might or might not be delivered. All this so that when i wake up today, and hear the door bell ring, i'll open the door to a surprise, putting a big smile on my face.
This one is for you darling - for every part of you i miss and love.

Jamais vu
i look ahead to the weeks before me, the months, the coming year. i glance at the calender, i scan through my planner. the dates rush past me.
like how time would as well? i wonder.
i see the filled days - deadlines to meet, meetings to attend, a life to live.
the immensity of the many things is overwhelming, but it carries echoes of many not-so-distant pasts.
why does it all feel so familiar?
i have come this way before. in fact, this journey is so well traveled, i have left a path where there was none. why is it then that each time i trod down this lane i fail to recognise the stones that line the cold ground, that the second left turn surprises me still?
take a good look around,
recognise that you are no stranger to this,
and like all the other times when the dark forest of trees had given way to open skies,
this time too will be no different.
you can do this.
believe that in the end,
everything will be alright.
